March 2017 – Responsible Outdoor Lighting

When we hear the nouns “environment” or “nature”, we tend to think of scenes where the sun is shining.  But that misses one entire half of nature – the nighttime half.  Drew Carhart, board member of the Illinois Coalition for Responsible Outdoor Lighting will discuss the importance of that overlooked half of nature, and how the choices we make, especially concerning how we use light, can have serious negative effects, from wasting energy, doing ecological harm, and reducing safety, right up to taking the stars from the sky.
